Chesney Pastoral | Evolve Engineering BLADERUNNER, crimping pasture
Chesney Pastoral is a family-run grazing operation just south of Orange, managing sheep, cattle and trade steers. Like many producers looking to evolve their system, they’ve been adopting practices that put livestock performance, pasture resilience and soil health at the centre.
This footage captures one of their multi-species pastures sown back in April, a diverse mix including:
Clovers (3 varieties)
Phalaris (3 varieties)
Chicory & plantain
Lucerne, prairie grass & ryegrass
Peas & daikon radish
Grazing canola & oats (as a bulk starter)
50kg of MAP, followed by a natural liquid fertiliser once adequate leaf area had developed
Six months post-planting, the paddock was crash-grazed with cows and calves. Now, the BLADERUNNER™ is being used to knock down any remaining stalks and help terminate variegated thistle before it chokes out the young perennials. The result: a simple, low-disturbance pass that supports soil armour, preserves moisture, and sets the pasture up for stronger recovery.
If you’re looking to work with what you’ve already got, evolve your system, and get more out of your pastures, this is a great example of what’s possible.
